In recent years, I have participated in various articles as well as TV and podcasts discussing why we engage in handicrafts and the beneficial effects of handicrafts on our mental well-being.
Here is a selection of the various press mentions.
CAN KNITTING MAKE YOU HAPPY?
Today's guest has spent years trying to figure out what happens to us when we knit, oil our bicycle chains, cook, and engage in other forms of handiwork and craftsmanship. She believes it makes us happy and can help with mental disorders. I need to know more about this, so get your knitting out and listen in.
CRAFT - IS IT HEALTHY TO HAVE A PASSION-DRIVEN HOBBY?
It's fantastic to have activities in our lives that we are passionate about, and it is, in fact, healthy as well. In this episode, Anne Kirketerp discusses her research, which shows that our concentration improves, and our mental well-being is elevated when we engage in activities that are so enjoyable that we become passionate about them. Anne Kirketerp also emphasizes that Craft is NOT just knitting psychology but encompasses activities such as sourdough baking and fly tying as well.
CRAFT PSYCHOLOGY - HOW HANDICRAFTS CAN HELP YOU THROUGH CRISIS AND STRESS
Can you use knitting, carpentry, embroidery, or cooking, for example to improve your physical and mental well-being? The answer is "yes," and in this program, we delve into why and how. We will take a closer look at the concept of craft psychology and explore the ways in which handicrafts and craftsmanship can have health-promoting effects.
CRAFT PSYKOLOGI WITH ANNE KIRKETERP
Yes, it's true, knitting is good for you! Artisan, handicraft teacher, and psychologist, Ph.D. Anne Kirketerp, has spent the last 20 years researching Craft-psychology: The theories that justify and describe the beneficial effects of handicrafts on our health and well-being. We ask her what actually happens to us, our bodies, and our brains when we knit?
The good hobby. The meaningful unnecessary activity. The coziness of immersion – without deadlines and judgments. The fascination of the process over the result. What is alluring to do without being anything other than what it is.
Host Henrik Tingleff has been repeatedly advised in this program series to learn to do nothing, to engage in something useless, to learn not to think about work all the time... to get a hobby. Together with Anne Kirketerp, he delves into the psychology of hobbies.
In this podcast, we tune in to mindfulness and explore all the positive effects knitting has on us. We are curious about craft psychology and, of course, have guests in the studio!
MINDFUL CROCHETING - THE PATH TO LESS STRESS AND MORE JOY
Journalist, Osteopath DO, and Master in Positive Psychology, Arnheidur Hanna Tómasdóttir, has written a lovely little article about mindful crocheting and what it entails.
USE YOUR HANDS - FOR THE SAKE OF YOUR MIND
I have an article in the new magazine from the Psychiatry Foundation, focusing on children and young people with mental illness. In it, I explain how engaging in craft cannot replace psychiatric treatment but can help alleviate conditions such as anxiety and depression.
COUNTING STITCHES TO EASE STRESS AND DEPRESSION
For six months, journalist Karin Svennevig followed my course on "Mindful Crocheting." The course was specially designed for these six women who already knew each other but, for many, had never crocheted before! The course consisted of five sessions, each featuring a different positive psychological exercise, along with mindful crocheting between each session.
FORGET YOURSELF AND BE HAPPY
Why do we engage in handicrafts? What psychological explanations underlie our joy in creating textiles?
WHEN HANDICRAFTS HEAL THE SOUL
An article about what we experience when we are quietly immersed in mindful handicrafts.
THE BENEFICIAL EFFECTS OF HANDICRAFTS ON OUR WELL-BEING AND HEALTH
The broadcast demonstrates how Craft-psychology can be used to enhance our well-being and reduce stress. TV Midt Vest followed me for two days, recording at places such as the Center for Mastery in Viborg, where I have trained some of their talented staff.
